Meant To Be

Prologue | Chapter One | Chapter Two

Meant To be

The three friends thanked the other game players, as they got ready to leave the basketball court. The work out they had gotten with the three on three game help burn off some excess energy and work up an appetite.

“You guys want to grab a bit to eat?” Jamal Woods asked his friends and teammates.

“I’m game,” replied Jack Ramsey “Jason what about you?”

“Sure, where do you want to go?” Jason replied then added “Just not Kelly’s.”

“Why not Kelly’s? I was just thinking that some chili… Oops! Sorry man, I honestly forgot.” Jamal was looking apologetic but slightly amused.

“Are you still avoiding Carly? I mean she must really want to get back with you. It’s been 2 months now. What’s up?” Jack asked with a disbelieving look.

“She just won’t stop trying to get us back together. Lately, she has kind of pulled back over the last couple of weeks. The thing is, I think she is only pushing it because our mother’s are friends and she doesn’t want Ms Spencer to be disappointed in her.”

“That’s cold man.” Jamal spoke up. “You mean it’s not even about you? It’s about disappointing her mother?”

“Part of it is about me,” Jason said trying to save face “I mean we did go out for 2 years but it’s over. The problem is that we see each other at school everyday and everybody knows that we broke up and some folks are playing with her head telling her I will forget what happened.” Jason and Carly both went to Kensington Preparatory Academy a private school in Port Charles and had been attending the same private schools most of their lives. “To be honest, things had been changing for that last couple of months anyway. Eventually we would have ended up were we are now because it just wasn’t the same. Finding out she was seeing Sonny Corbin behind my back just speeded things up.”

Jason acknowledged to himself that his pride was more bruised than his heart. During the time he dated Carly he had never strayed no matter whom he met or was attracted too. Carly insisted that nothing happened between her and Sonny Corbin but the fact remained that she became interested in someone else. Jason knew that probably never would have happened it their relationship had been solid.

“Man those prep school girls are something else. Give me a public school chick any day.” Jack said shaking his head.

“What?” Jamal looked at him in amazement, “Isn’t Livvie a student at Kensington too? Or did she transfer last night?”

“Yeah, she is, but Livvie don’t count,” he was determined to make his point.

“Shut up!” Jamal gave him a friendly shove, and then they all laughed at the absurdity of the comment. “How about the Pizza Shack. I can always go for a hot slice.”

“Sounds good to me”, Jason and Jack agreed. Then the three guys proceeded to get on their motorcycles and head off to eat.

That was how the three guys had met and bonded their; common passions, motocross racing and motorcycle obsession. Jason Quartermaine the son of Drs Alan and Monica Quartermaine after much pleading and bargaining with his parents purchased his first motorcycle at 16. Over the last 2 years, he had upgraded to a more sophisticated model and had taken up the passion of motocross racing much to the dismay of his mother and the secret thrill of his father. His parent just figured that they could wait him out, thinking eventually he would grow out of it or lose interest, so far, it hasn’t happened. Jason knew motorcycles were in his blood and he had no intention of giving them up.

Then there was Jamal Woods who rode into Port Charles about a year ago at 17 to live with his maternal aunt Regina and her husband David Jensen. After the death of his mother, his aunt Regina extended him a welcome to come live with her family. Jamal at 17 had wanted to try to make it on his own but Regina convinced him that he had a family that wanted to nurture and love him. Regina convinced Jamal that the world out there would be waiting for him when he reached full manhood and there was no need to rush it. At the time his cousin Dara was moving to Syracuse New York to attend Law School so they agreed that he could live in the apartment, she had created over the garage to allow him some space and privacy. He had enrolled in classes at Port Charles High School and started to motocross race on the weekends.

The third member of the trio was Jack Ramsey the brother of General Hospital intern Chris Ramsey. Jack had come to live with Chris at the age of 14 when social services had taken him from his father after he left Jack at home by himself for a month. Their mother had died when Jack was four and Chris 12 and they were both left in the care of their father until Chris had left home at 17 to go to college. As far as Warren Ramsey was concern, a boy at 14 was a man and Jack would be fine at home alone while he went out on his private pursuits. Unfortunately for Warren, the state of New York didn’t agree with him and removed Jack from his care. Instead of placing him in the foster care system Chris as a struggling student with the help of the state took his brother in and provided him a home. Jack had met Jason at the tracks 2 years before and when he met Jamal at Port Charles High the three developed a bonded friendship over their mutual passion for bikes and racing. It had only grown stronger over the last year.
