Meant To Be

Prologue | Chapter One | Chapter Two

“I hate him, I hate him, I hate him!” Gia furiously went around her bedroom removing any and everything that reminded her of that worm, Lucky Spencer. Her first action when she arrived home had been to immediately grab a plastic garbage bag from the kitchen. As far as she was concerned, garbage was a perfect description for anything that was associated with that bonehead.

She grabbed the book he’d bought her, even though she never thought she would ever be tempted to throw away a book. Under normal circumstances, she would have donated it, but these were not normal circumstances. Then she swooped up the tee shirt she had admired and that he had given her and stuffed it along with the book haphazardly in the plastic bag.

Walking over to her bed, she grabbed the stuffed frog and even Mr. Wiggles the teddy bear he had won for her at the last school fair. She hesitated over Mr. Wiggles because he was so cute. He was a faux Pooh Bear, golden with a red vest and red top hat. “Maybe I will keep you.” She said as she kissed him and put him back on the pillow. “After all I really can’t blame you for who won you but the frog goes!”

She wrapped up her cleanup and surveyed the room. Satisfied that it was Spencer free, with the exception of Mr. Wiggles, she marched back downstairs, flung open the back door and headed for the nearest garbage can. Gia dropped the bag in before she changed her mind and slammed down the lid. “Good riddance.” She dusted her hands off and sighed with accomplishment. She turned and went back in the house slamming the backdoor in anger trying to relieve her frustrations and because she could, since her mother, Florence wasn’t at home.

Lucky Spencer slammed his phone on his bed. He knew it was too soon to try to call her back again. She has cussed him out twice now and wouldn’t let him explain. He was going to ignore her request that he not call her back because he knew she didn’t really mean it. “Damn, I can’t believe this happened.” Gia had caught him with Elizabeth Webber outside of the school gym and now she didn’t want to listen to his explanation. There was no way he was going to lose Gia. Sure, he had been making out with Elizabeth, but it didn’t mean anything to him. It wasn’t his fault that she had a crush on him and was making herself available. Gia Campbell was the girl he wanted to be with and he was confident that as soon as he got her to listen he could get her back. While he was musing over his dilemma, his phone rang.

He was hoping it was Gia calling him back. “Hello.”

“Hi, Lucky it’s Elizabeth. I called because I just wanted to talk.” Annoyed he pulled the phone from his ear and looked at it with a grimace on his face. What if Gia tried to call now? Reluctantly he put it back to his ear knowing he had to play along.

“Sure, what did you want to talk about?”

Monica Quartermaine knocked briefly before letting herself into her son’s room. She marched over to the stereo and turned off the blaring music.

“Jason Quartermaine, what is wrong with you? This has to stop and it will stop today.” Jason, who had been laying on his bed listening to music, hadn’t heard his mother enter until the music was shut off.

“What did I do now?” he grumbled.

“You know very well what I am talking about young man. That girl has been calling every hour on the hour. It seems you have turned your phone off so now the rest of the family and the staff have been taking her calls because you refuse to.” Monica was very annoyed with her son and her tone made that as clear as day.

“I asked her not to call. What can I do? I don’t have any control over her. We are not seeing each other anymore and Carly won’t accept that.” Jason was off the bed looking at his mother with a pleading look.

“You will do something or I will have to talk with Bobbie about what is going on with you and Carly. Bobbie Spencer is one of my dearest friends and I don’t want to be at odds with her about a teenage romance between her daughter and my son. So, whatever this little spat you and Carly are having work it out or make it very clear that it is over. Don’t play with that girl’s affections Jason. We taught you better than that.” Monica was waving a finger in his face the entire time she lectured her youngest son.

“I’m not Mom, I promise. But Carly and I are no longer seeing each other, and I am not changing my mind. I don’t want you to get involved with this Mom. I will speak to Carly again and tell her to stop calling the house and harassing the staff.”

“Ok, I guest I will have to be satisfied with that for now.” Monica turned to leave but seeing the dejected look on her son’s face said “I’m sorry about suggesting that you would toy with Carly’s affections I know better than that. I was just annoyed when I came in.” And with a hug, she left the room.

Flinging himself on his bed Jason covered his eyes with his forearm and lay there for a minute to gather his resolve. Reluctantly he reached for the phone and dialed Carly Spencer’s phone number.

She stood looking in the bathroom mirror as she combed her blond hair just staring at her reflection. “Well, well, well. So, Ms Car-lee went slumming on the docks and Mr. Gorgeous found out. That’s just too bad, and I am so heart broken for her. NOT!” She laughed gleefully at her own wit.

She left her bathroom and almost skipped into her bedroom to fling herself backwards on her bed. She had no problems with talking to herself while she planned her strategy.

“Carly’s stupidity will be my gain. I can’t move in to quickly, I just need to make sure that no one else tries to squeeze in ahead of me.” Then thinking about it she said crossly, “they better not or they will be sorry. Jason Quartermaine, watch out, because you will be mine.”
